RACE REPORTS
July 5-6, 2003
Another weekend of exciting racing has come to an end. The first night of racing for the 52 Machine was in Salina, Kansas. With previous races not going in favor for McAninch Motorsports, we had hoped that our luck had changed and we could take home a win. The competition was stiff, but Ryan was determined to do well. There were four heats for the Tora Late Models that night and we raced in the fourth. The starting position for the 52 Machine was 1st row-outside. With a great start, Flyin' Ryan would take control of his heat and place 1st.
In the A-Feature, Flyin' Ryan would start the race in the 3rd row-inside. The A-Feature event was full of excitement and tension, as there were numerous cautions throughout the race. During one caution, a collision had occurred between two drivers causing a big dust cloud coming out of turn 2, impairing the vision of the drivers coming back around. The track rubbered-up during the race, which made passing a challenge. Many drivers were eliminated or dropped back due to a wreck or being involved in a caution. The first part of the raced we maintained an 8th place position and slowly gained position from there. At the drop of the checkered flag, Ryan maintained a 6th place position, fighting hard and coming close to 5th.
The next day, McAninch Motorsports would try taking on the high banks of Belleville, Kansas against the NCRA Late Models for a victory. The outcome of this race would not help or hurt Ryan's standing in the TORA series, as this event was a National Championship Racing Association event. In Ryan's heat race, the 52 Machine had some motor problems and shut down during the race and had to be pushed off, as Ryan could not get the 52 Machine to fire back up. There were only 20 late models in attendance, giving McAninch Motorsports an advantage not having to compete in a B-Feature event. The 52 Machine started 16th place and still continued to have problems with the ignition system. Unfortunately, Ryan was unable to continue the event.
McAninch Motorsports will be taking this weekend off from racing, but will compete next Saturday in the TORA series event at Thunderhill Speedway in Mayetta, Kansas. We hope to see all our race fans there!!!!
