RACE REPORTS

May 10-11, 2003

This past weekend, McAninch Motorsports raced in Salina and Wakeeney back to back. The first night was interesting. At first, we weren't sure if we were going to race due to weather, but it cleared up and ended up to be a cold one. There were four heats that night, and we were in heat four, starting in the first row-outside. Green flag was dropped and it was go time! We finished in first place, which qualified us for a second row-outside position in the A-Feature. The A-Feature was going to be a challenge as 14-Berck and 7-Boen started in the first row. The green flag dropped and it was time to go racing. During the first half of the race we maintained 3rd place following 7-Boen and 14-Berck. There was many times that 35-Echevarria would challenge us going into 3, but Ryan would never let up. Then Ryan lost ground and 35-Echevarria took advantage of the opening and passed us. After a couple laps 35-Echevarria left an opening and Ryan then regained his 3rd place position. Then as the races progressed, lap traffic became a problem as Ryan tried numerous time to pass lap traffic to keep up with the leaders. We finished the race with a 3rd place position.

Sunday in Wakeeney we found ourselves starting in the front row of our heat race. We jumped out to a commanding lead during the first stages of the heat race. We ran the high side and a second groove began to develop in the later stages of the heat race we would then be passed by Delbert Smith and Larry McDaniels. We where shuffled back to third place.

Starting 11th on the grid in the A feature we knew it would be hard to get to the front. With track conditions making it hard to pass unless another competitor made a mistake. The feature would have many cautions and when the Checkered flag dropped we would finish 8th place.
